Wilmington: A Top 10 Recreation City

RelocateAmerica listed Wilmington as a Top 10 Recreation City for 2010.  The publication sited warm temperatures, casual lifestyles, and a plethora of activities for all ages as some of the determining factors.  Those of us that live in this area year-round often take for granted all that this area has to offer.  From the Greater Wilmington area to Pleasure Island to Oak Island and Southport, this is wonderful place to call "home."

1. Flower up curb appeal. Do the lawn and bushes look neatly manicured? Could it use more? Are pretty flowers or plants framing the entrance? Is the walkway free from cracks? Does it smell like blooms or manure as you approach the front door? Are the windows clean? Is the paint peeling? Is the grass healthy? Weeds are green, too, you know, so by healthy I not only mean green, but I also mean no weeds. Does your front door have a fresh coat of stain or paint? Curb appeal can be a chore or a fun family event. Either way, it has to happen before the sign goes in the yard! And, by the way, continue it 'til the closing. It's just the right thing to do. 2. Have a pre-sale home inspection. Be proactive. An inspector will give you...

Same Price, Less Cost According to the S&P Case Shiller Pricing Index, home values have fallen to August 2003 prices.  Buying a home today -- due to significantly lower interest rates -- will actually cost you less!  Specifically, $145.61 less per month based on a $200,000 loan amount (see chart).  The message here is that, with rising interest rates looming, buyers should act now and not wait for further drops in home prices.

The girls Hoggard Lacrosse team beat 3 of the state’s top teams to land themselves in the finals at the state level. They played Charlotte Catholic rated # 4 in the state but it wasn’t theirs to win. The fierce determination of these warriors led them to be defeated by only 1 pt. They scored 11 against Charlotte Catholic 12 points. But the team is well positioned for next year by the strong work ethic of the graduating seniors.   GOOD LUCK VIKINGS  - GO VIKINGS!!

Does The Discount Discount Your Confidence?I was driving away from a re-inspection today and I saw a little trailer with ladders and equipment attached. Now that you have seen the view from my vantage point, let's take a look at the sign or billboard.I know that successful marketing is often fueled by discounts, especially at department stores and super markets where we might get name brands at discount prices. Heck, even some local dentists advertise discounts and, early in my...
